How to Install Strip Curtains: A Step-by-Step Guide

installing strip curtains

If you are looking for an efficient and cost-effective way of controlling the environment within your facility while also maintaining ventilation, strip curtains are the perfect solution. A strip curtain is a flexible barrier system separating two spaces, allowing light and air to pass through. It is commonly used in a variety of industrial, commercial, and residential applications, such as food processing plants, warehouses, cool rooms, and even restaurant kitchens. In this blog post, we will guide you step-by-step on installing strip curtains for your facility.

Step 1: Measuring the Door Opening

Before you begin your installation, you need to measure the size of the door opening and the height of the space where you will install the plastic door curtain. The height of the PVC curtain strips should be about 2" taller than the door's opening to ensure that the strips extend past the opening. Make sure to measure accurately because any measurement errors can significantly impact the performance of your strip curtain.

Step 2: Selecting the Right Grade and Size

The grade and size of your strip curtain depend on the environmental conditions of the space you are installing it in. For example, installing a PVC curtain strip in a freezer room will require a strip curtain with a lower temperature rating. Likewise, if you are installing a strip curtain to protect against insects, you will need a strip curtain with a tighter overlap. Ensure to purchase the correct grade and size of strip curtain to ensure optimal performance.

Step 3: Attaching the Mounting Hardware

Once you have the right size and grade, attach the mounting hardware to the top of the door. You can attach the mounting hardware with screws, bolts, or straps. Once the mounting hardware is attached, you can hang the strip curtains.

Step 4: Hanging the Strip Curtains

To hang the strip curtains, you need to align the holes of the curtain with the holes in the mounting hardware. Insert the S-hooks or J-hooks through the holes in the curtain and mount them onto the hardware. Ensure that there is a consistent overlap between the PVC curtain strips to create a seal.

Step 5: Trim the Strips

After hanging the strips, you may find that they are too long for the opening of your door. You can easily trim the strips using a sharp pair of scissors or a knife. Ensure to cut the strips flush with the floor to prevent trip hazards.

Step 6: Final Adjustments

After trimming the strips, make sure that the curtains are hanging straight and that the overlap between the strips is consistent. If there are any areas where the overlap is insufficient, adjust the position of the strips to ensure the maximum seal.
